WWE Superstar Joins Pat McAfee as College GameDay Celebrity Picker
The college football season is almost here, and with it comes the return of ESPN College GameDay.
Rece Davis, Kirk Herbstreit, Lee Corso, Desmond Howard, and Pat McAfee are all coming back to announce their picks for the week this season.
McAfee is making his triumphant return after serving as the commentator alongside Michael Cole for WWE Raw for the past seven months.
For the first time ever, College GameDay will be going international, broadcasting from Dublin, Ireland on Aug. 24 — and it looks like they chose the perfect celebrity guest picker for the location.
This week, College GameDay announced on social media that Irish WWE superstar Sheamus will be the first celebrity guest picker of the season.
Sheamus was clearly excited about the opportunity, sharing a video on his X account announcing the guest hosting gig alongside McAfee.
“This is WWE Superstar, the Celtic Warrior, Sheamus, letting you know that I’m going to be the celebrity guest picker for ESPN’s College GameDay.”
McAfee seems to be equally as excited as Sheamus, sharing footage of the Celtic Warrior fighting Pete Dunne on WWE Raw, with McAfee providing commentary.
“SHEAMUS IS THROWING PETE DUNNE ARAHND,” McAfee said. “I’LL SEE YA IN DUBLIN PAL.”
Born and raised in Dublin, Sheamus first came to prominence in various Irish and British independent promotions alongside Drew McIntyre.
He would eventually make his WWE television debut on June 30, 2009. Less than six months later, he pinned John Cena at TLC: Tables, Ladders, and Chairs to become WWE Champion. He wound up holding the title three times.
Sheamus would go on to hold many other honors in WWE, including the World Heavyweight Championship once, the WWE United States Championship three times, the WWE Raw Tag Team Championship four times, and the WWE SmackDown Tag Team Championship once.
Sheamus was also the winner of King of the Ring in 2010, the Royal Rumble in 2012, and Money in the Bank in 2015.
The only WWE title Sheamus hasn’t won is the Intercontinental Title, although his attempts against Gunther and McIntyre resulted in some of the best WWE matches in recent memory.
With Sheamus on the broadcast, there’s no doubt that he’s going to pick banger after banger after banger.
