Woman Finds Giant Dog ‘Grieving’ Her After Leaving House for Two Minutes

A woman joked on social media that she had no choice but to quit her job and stay home with her dog after discovering his reaction to thinking she was gone.

To say bullmastiff Henry has a strong bond with his owner, Clare, would be an understatement, as his reaction after only a few minutes to her leaving the house was on par with the end of the world.

Clare told Newsweek: “I was honestly caught off guard and confused when I came in and heard him mid-howl.”

The Michigan woman has a TikTok account dedicated to her adored pet, and one clip shared to @_lifewithhenry_ has gone viral, with over 534,000 likes and 3 million views.

In the video, Clare heads through the house toward a loud noise, somewhere between a howl, bark and whine. It gets louder as she gets closer to a room, and the grumbling is then revealed to be Henry, who is howling away with his face lifted to the heavens.

He stops suddenly as his owner comes into view. As she cries “My baby!” he gets up and walks straight to her for cuddles.

“I wasn’t even gone for two minutes,” she assures him in the video, “I had literally gone out to the garage, pulled out my Rollerblades and came back in to the howling,” she told Newsweek.

Across the clip, she wrote: “Well, I have to quit my job now.”

TikTok users were left laughing at the video, with one joking: “U can tell he was embarrassed u caught him”.

“Oh he was GRIEVING,” another wrote.

One wrote from Henry’s perspective: “You weren’t supposed to see that.”

And one very helpful commenter declared: “I’ll stay home with him. You go to work. It’s really no trouble!”

Clare said the comments on her viral video “crack me up,” adding that it’s “nice to see how many dog lovers can relate and know the mixed emotions that come with leaving your dog alone.”

One commenter suggested leaving the radio on for Henry when Clare leaves the house, Since taking up the advice, she said, “we’ve come home to find him sleeping under the radio on multiple occasions, so I think having some background noise when he’s home alone is helping.”

Clare said Henry has “brought so much joy to our life” since he was adopted, describing him as a “big lovable boy who loves to be by his people, as you can tell by the video.”

“We had just got home from a five-day vacation, so we were together constantly and that two-minute span was his first time being alone in a week,” she explained. “And, well…he didn’t like it.”

Henry is also known as “Ferris Drooler,” according to his TikTok bio. Bullmastiffs can grow up to weigh up to 130 pounds and stand 27 inches at the shoulder.

Despite their enormous size, bullmastiffs are known for their affectionate nature with their loved ones. The American Kennel Club (AKC) describes them as a world-class protector and family companion.

The AKC also says bullmastiffs have a low barking level, but in Henry’s case this is only true when he doesn’t think he’s been left behind by his owner.

In other clips to Henry’s account, the giant dog can be seen following his owner around like a shadow, taking long walks around town and snoring loudly while he sleeps like a log.
