Travis Kelce Now Has a No. 1 Song to His Name
Move over, Taylor Swift. Travis Kelce is the nation’s hottest new recording artist.
Well, maybe that’s a bit of an exaggeration. But the Kansas City Chiefs tight end is seeing some musical success.
Earlier this fall, news broke that Travis would be appearing alongside his brother, Jason, on a charity Christmas album. Jason and two of his fellow Eagles offensive linemen, Lane Johnson and Jordan Mailata, joined forces to release A Philly Special Christmas.
“I am [on the album],” Travis said on the New Heights podcast. “Yeah, we had a fun song…. That song was actually pretty sweet, man. I enjoyed doing it. The guys, the team came out and hung out with me in Kansas City for a few hours, and we knocked it out. Yeah, I think that they made me sound extremely better.”
He also had a disclaimer for those who are going to listen to his singing.
“Not saying it was good by any means,” Kelce said. “I’m just saying they made it sound extremely better than what I felt like I left that studio thinking.”
The album has now gone public, and the public has eaten up the bit of brotherly love. On November 15, Talk of the Charts tweeted that the Kelces’ “Fairytale of Philadelphia” had reached the top spot on US iTunes.
While you could cynically argue that doesn’t mean much—Apple’s platform represents only a piece of the musical pie—the brothers appeared to appreciate the accomplishment.
Jason, for his part, tweeted a seasonally appropriate GIF of Buddy the Elf to express his excitement. He had previously fired off a post showing the song in the top 10, writing, “This is incredibly humbling, thank you to all for supporting!!”
Travis didn’t tweet about it himself—His X (formerly Twitter) account was in the news for other reasons—but the New Heights podcast did react to the song’s success with a GIF of No. 87 himself.
While that success is nothing to sneeze at, it probably won’t blow Taylor Swift away. Over the years, she’s topped the Billboard Hot 100 an eye-popping 11 times.
And if this song’s success is showing a bit too much brotherly love, don’t worry. Travis and Jason will be on opposite sides of a pitched NFL battle on November 20, as the Eagles travel to Kansas City for a Super Bowl rematch.
Beyond the Kelce vs. Kelce narrative, the game will serve as a measuring stick for both clubs. The Chiefs are sitting at 7-2 thanks in large part to their defense. In a reversal of fortunes, it’s the offense that needs to click down the stretch.
As for the 8-1 Eagles, the defending NFC champs sit atop most power rankings. Things haven’t been perfect, but Philly is still making things happen. Can Jalen Hurts and his offense continue shouldering the load? Or will a leaky pass defense prove to be an Achilles heel down the stretch?
We won’t get the answers to those questions for a few days, though. In the meantime, we’ll just have to be content with pregame quotes and the Kelce brothers’ hit song.
