New York Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers might be one of the most polarizing figures in the sports world. Rodgers is arguably one of the best quarterbacks in the league, but his thoughts on various political subjects have led to him being in the headlines for everything but football.

Rodgers has openly questioned and critiqued how the United States handled the COVID-19 pandemic, often speaking about his feelings on the matter when guesting on podcasts like “The Joe Rogan Experience” and “The Pat McAfee Show.” Though his comments have ruffled plenty of feathers, it has also led to a unique opportunity of him being among the vice president candidates to run alongside independent politician, Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
Though Rodgers was on the “short list” for this position, he has since revealed why he chose to decline the offer to enter politics.

Ari Meirov posted the video of Rodgers speaking to reporters at Jets OTAs. Rodgers was asked how serious conversations were about his being the running mate for Kennedy.
Rodgers stated, “I love Bobby. We had a couple of really good conversations. There were really two options. Retire and be his VP or keep playing. I wanted to keep playing.”
Rodgers chose to remain in the world that he knows best, which is football. Though he spent the 2023 season on the sideline after tearing his Achilles in the first series as the Jets quarterback, the hopes are high for his big return in 2024.
Rodgers is certainly not a younger quarterback by any means, as he will be entering his 20th season at 40 years old. Still, even though he is getting close to retirement, he has been adamant about attempting to win one more Super Bowl.
The Jets could rebound in 2024 and become relevant in the AFC. They have stars like running back Breece Hall and wide receivers Garrett Wilson and Mike Williams, along with defensive standouts in cornerback Sauce Gardner and defensive end Haason Reddick.
Rodgers will get another crack at playing for the Jets in what could potentially be his last season. Should he want to make a leap to politics after, it will have to presumably wait until the 2024 season concludes.
The fact that he was among the candidates to be the running mate for a potential presidential candidate is huge, but it appears Rodgers loves the game of football too much to give it up just yet.
