Multiple Buccaneers Players Heading to IR To Begin Season
The injury bug has not been kind to many NFL teams this season, and unfortunately for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, it has struck with two of their key offensive members.

Two Buccaneers offensive members, wide receiver Rakim Jarrett and running back Chase Edmonds, will likely be on the injured reserve for the season.
NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport was among the first to report on the news via social media.
Bucs head coach Todd Bowlestiol reported on Saturday that two of his offensive players will start the season on the injured reserve. Under the current NFL rules, teams can put two players on injured reserve on the day of the final roster cuts and then bring them back during the regular season.
Before that new rule took effect, any player put on injured reserve up to the day of final roster cuts was out for the season. This brings a new element to the game and allows teams to do this without getting penalized for no reason.
Because of this, the Buccaneers will likely put Jarrett and Edmonds on the IR on Tuesday during the final roster cuts and be activated at some point during the 2024 season. These two offensive pieces will look to showcase their talent sometime this season.
Jarrett signed with Tampa Bay as an undrafted free agent in May 2024. Following the 2023 preseason, the Buccaneers announced that he made the initial 53-man roster but was placed on the injured reserve in late Nov. 2023. He appeared in 10 games for the Bucs and recorded four receptions on nine targets, 60 receiving yards, and zero touchdowns.
The 23-year-old was a standout at Maryland, where he played for three seasons from 2020-22. Jarrett recorded 119 receptions for 1,552 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns in 28 games.
Edmonds hasn’t practiced since the first few days of training camp. He is dealing with an undisclosed injury that has been lingering. Edmonds will likely be four games, and with his looming absence, it will be on starter Rachaad White, Bucky Irving, and Sean Tucker to carry the load in the Bucs backfield for the first handful of weeks.
The 28-year-old is with the fourth team of his career after spending time with the Arizona Cardinals, Denver Broncos, Miami Dolphins, and now the Bucs. He has 450 rush attempts, 1,972 rushing yards, and 11 touchdowns in 83 career games.
Edmonds is a former fourth-round draft pick of the 2018 NFL Draft.
