Horror as Woman Steps on Highly Venomous Snake in Her Bathroom

Reddit users were left horrified after a woman revealed that she found a highly venomous snake hiding in her bathroom earlier this week.

A picture shared on Reddit on Wednesday under the username u/Anna2087, shows a tiger snake crawling its way to her living room, in her home in central New South Wales, Australia, after giving her the scare of a lifetime.

The post comes with a caption that says: “Last night I walked into the bathroom and stepped on this bloke. Neither of us were impressed—Central [New South Wales].”

She also explained in the comments: “My brain completely short-circuited when I put my foot down and landed on ‘squishy and moving.’ Maybe the most adrenaline I’ve ever felt.”

Tiger snakes are large and highly venomous members of the cobra family. Their venom, which contains a blood-clotting agent as well as a nerve paralyzer, is potentially fatal to humans.

They can be found in moist areas and in dry, rocky habitats of southern Australia and adjacent islands.

The poster told Newsweek: “The snake had been hanging around for a few days outside the house, someone left a door open and unattended for a short while and the snake seems to have gotten inside and headed for a dark corner behind the bath.”

The poster continued: “A couple of hours later, I went into the bathroom and it was just inside the doorway. I stepped in without really scanning and felt its body under my shoe, I immediately lifted my weight off and jumped past it and it slithered out into the living room. It wasn’t aggressive, I suspect because it was a cool evening and it had been on the tiled bathroom floor for a while (I understand they become more docile when their body temperature is low).

“It spent the next 25 minutes slowly moving up and down the floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room attempting to find a way outside and I just kept my eye on it while I waited for the local snake-catcher to arrive. When he arrived, the snake-catcher confirmed it was a tiger snake, he used a hooked pole maneuver it and then lifted it by the tail and placed it in a snake bag, again, it did not display any aggressive behavior.”

The post shared on the r/Australia subreddit has since reached hundreds of users and has so far received over 1,000 upvotes and 100 comments on the platform.

One user, BarklyMcBarkface, commented: “Wow good outcome for you both. I had one one come under a gap on our mud brick house. It tried to bite me but it couldn’t get me on top of the freezer.” And AusXan said: “This is what every American thinks every Australian home is like.”

Elasmonut added: “Notechis scutatus, Tiger snake. Lucky mate! Last time I got tagged was three days in hospital and a catheter! They are not overly aggressive and they tend to strike low, small fangs but can be a bit feisty on a hot day.”
