Eagles Land Former First-Round Pick Wide Receiver Jahan Dotson in Trade With Commanders

The Philadelphia Eagles are hoping to make some noise in the NFC in 2024, much like they did in 2023. Though the Eagles were one of the top teams in the NFL through most of the regular season, they seemed to falter in the winter months.

Despite finishing 11-6, the Eagles would exit the postseason early getting handily beaten by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Wild Card Round of the 2024 Playoffs with a final score of 32-9.

Whether or not that falls on the offense and the defense, the Eagles have made some big moves to elevate the team in the offseason. One of the biggest moves was acquiring running back Saquon Barkley. Now, the Eagles have added to their wide receiver room with a rare in-division signing.

Adam Schefter reported that the Eagles traded acquired Jahan Dotson and a fifth-round pick from the Commanders for a 2025 third-round pick and two seventh-round picks.

Dotson now joins a wide receiver room that includes A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith, Parris Campbell, Johnny Wilson, John Ross, and more.

Naturally, Dotson will line up with Brown and Smith as the third starting wide receiver in offensive packages for the Eagles.

Dotson is a former first-round pick, selected No. 16 overall in the 2022 NFL Draft out of Penn State. Dotson played four seasons at Penn State between 2018 and 202, securing 2,757 yards and 25 touchdowns. His most successful season in college was in 2021 when he secured 1,182 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Dotson produced a decent rookie season in 2022 with the Commanders, bringing in 523 yards and seven touchdowns. His 2023 season was similar, as Dotson secured 518 yards and four touchdowns.

The Commanders never quite got Dotson going in their offense, and he now has a chance to produce on the explosive offensive attack the Eagles have. Dotson will benefit from catching passes from one of the best quarterbacks in the league in Jalen Hurts.

The NFC is loaded with competitive teams aiming to make the playoffs. The San Francisco 49ers are favored to win the NFC crown, and there is also the Dallas Cowboys to worry about.

The Cowboys edged their way into landing the NFC East title in 2023, but the Eagles were right on their heels. The competition for the title along with making waves in the playoffs will be even tougher in 2024.

Dotson being added to the Eagles’ offense will add another dynamic weapon for Hurts and could elevate the team to greater heights.
