Blake Lively Criticized By Fans For Another Resurfaced Interview
Entertainment gossip and news from Newsweek’s network of contributors
Another resurfaced Blake Lively interview has fans seeing red.
The former Gossip Girl star, 36, has already been under fire thanks to the drama surrounding the It Ends With Us promo tour, as well as a resurfaced 2016 interview with co-star Parker Posey for the film Café Society. Now, an Extra interview from 2014 has been gaining traction on TikTok, adding fuel to the growing backlash.
In the clip, reporter AJ Calloway — whose wife was 7 months pregnant at the time — asks a pregnant Lively about cravings, joking that he has been rubbing his partner’s feet every night. “She’s just taking advantage,” said Lively, who was pregnant with her first child, daughter James, 9, at the time. “It’s not necessary. You can exploit it if you want.”
Calloway seemed surprised, laughing and asking Lively to repeat it for the cameras. “You’re just a sucker. You can’t fall for that stuff,” the Blake Brown founder said.
“Cravings? No. We just lie,” Lively continued. “It’s the perfect way to get what you want all the time. You want chocolate ice cream at midnight? You have a craving!”
When Calloway suggests she is calling out pregnant women everywhere, Lively responds, “No, I’m teasing,” though she did insist she had not had any cravings and was feeling good.
The clip, which has over 8 million views, is captioned, “Every pregnancy hits everyone differently. I’ve had five kids… and it was all different experiences while pregnant. You can have a completely different experience from someone else without saying s**t like this…”
Text on the video also slammed Lively, reading, “This is not a ‘girls’ girl.’ This interview bugs me.” Many commenters have been comparing Lively to Pearl, or Hannah Pearl Davis, a conservative internet personality and podcaster known for her “anti-feminist” opinions.
“This is such pearl energy I don’t know how else to describe it,” one commenter wrote, while another one shared, “I feel like Blake and Pearl would be great friends 😂.” Another upset fan wrote, “I was on my feet working until I had my son. Yes they hurt, yes my husband rubbed them for me. I’m guessing she lives a pampered life whether pregnant or not so her feet probably aren’t sore.”
However, there were many fans that also came to Lively’s defense, with one posting, “I’ve watched all the interviews. Am I the only one who just hears sarcasm? I think she is funny. I still like her.” Another fan posted, “I feel like she is uncomfortable talking about her pregnancies & tries to joke it off, but the jokes aren’t hitting, so it can easily be interpreted as being not a girls’ girl.”
Lively shares James, Inez, 7, Betty, 4, and Olin, 1, with husband Ryan Reynolds, to whom she has been married since September 9, 2012.
