‘Wordle’ #989 Clues, Tips and Answer for Monday, March 4 Puzzle


We love Wordle because of its simplicity but that does not always mean it is easy to solve.

But never fear, Newsweek is here with lots of hints and tips to solve today’s puzzle.

Every day a new, mystery five-letter word appears on the Wordle app or website and players have to try and guess it in six tries or less.

They are helped along with color coded tiles. Gray tiles behind each letter indicate that they’re not in the word at all; yellow means the letter features, but is in the wrong position, while green lets players know the letter is in the word and in the right spot.

It was invented by British software engineer Josh Wardle and went viral when it made its debut in 2021.

“Starting off with words that include commonly used vowels, for example, e and a, consonants such as r and t, and sound sequences might be helpful,” Erhan Aslan, an expert in applied linguistics from the University of Reading in the U.K., who provided some useful advice for Wordle players, told Newsweek.

“One thing that I think is important in this game is the starting word chosen,” Aslan said. “Starting off with words that include commonly used vowels, for example, e and a, consonants such as r and t, and sound sequences might be helpful.

“Choosing a word that starts with q, z, j, or x, for instance, may not be the best choice. As you get more feedback after a few guesses, users need to draw on some knowledge of phonics to narrow down or eliminate some words that they might be thinking.”
