Hearts Melt as Owner Makes Sure Puppy Sleeps ‘at All Costs’

These days, dogs are treated more like family than pets—so the lengths this owner is willing to go to make sure his puppy is well-rested may not come as a surprise.

In a viral TikTok video shared by @got_thedub, a man can be seen pulling a blanket with a tiny puppy sleeping on it across a wooden floor.

The text layered over the heartwarming footage says, the dog’s dad was “letting him sleep at all costs.” So far, the August 25 clip has 349,000 views and plenty of praise in the comment section.

“He is taking the sleeping dogs and baby thing seriously [laughing emoji],” jokes one user.

Another agreed, “NEVER wake a sleeping baby.”

“Definitely a GREEN FLAG!” said a third commenter, referring to the post’s hashtags and on-screen text.

Indeed, the owner from Dublin, Ireland, wasn’t wrong for refusing to disturb his pup’s beauty sleep. Newsweek previously spoke to experts to find out how much sleep a puppy should be getting.

Dr. Jerry Klein, chief veterinary officer at the American Kennel Club (AKC), explained that puppies usually sleep for 18 to 20 hours per day.

“Puppies often sleep for long periods of time, but they also take frequent naps,” he said. “They may be little bundles of energy one minute and then passed out the next! Sleep is an integral part of healthy growth in puppies.”

Like babies, puppies should have a sleep schedule, Liz Claflin, vice president of operations at dog trainers Zoom Room, previously explained. She said it will help them learn how to control their bladders and speed up the house-training process.

“It can also help to ensure the puppy gets enough rest and adopts a good sleep cycle,” she said. “A good puppy schedule includes meals at roughly the same time each day, going outside for a potty break at the same time after meals, water and play sessions.”

While the schedule may revolve around sleep, it is important to incorporate play and training times. Owners should also implement bedtime and wake them up at around the same time every day too.

Sometimes, puppies grow up to stick to their bedtime routines even in adulthood, often expecting their owners to follow suit. Take Callie, a golden retriever, for example. She was caught on camera trying to guilt-trip her owner into going to bed. In some houses, sharing a bed with a pet is frowned upon, but experts have previously told Newsweek that there are some benefits.
