Spurs Sign Third-Year NBA Guard To Bolster Roster Depth
The San Antonio Spurs continued to add to their overall roster depth, agreeing to a deal with former Los Angeles Clippers guard Brandon Boston Jr. NBA insider Michael Scotto of HoopsHype broke the news of the agreement on X.

Terms of the deal are unknown. Because Scotto indicated that Boston will be competing for a roster spot in San Antonio, it seems likely to be an Exhibit 10 training camp contract. He is a former second-round pick of the Memphis Grizzlies but was quickly traded over to the Clippers.
Former NBA All-Star guard John Wall was excited about the signing. He took to social media on his Instagram Story to share his thoughts on the matter.
“Yessir bro @brandonboston ‼️”
Wall was briefly teammates with Boston during the 2022-23 season with the Clippers. The two seemingly became close and Wall is supporting his career. Both players also played for the University of Kentucky, likely starting the shared bond that they have.
Boston appeared in 32 games for the Clippers last season, averaging 5.2 points, 1.6 rebounds, 0.4 assists, and 0.3 steals per game. His 3-point percentage dropped greatly from the prior year, coming in at 26.9 percent compared to his 41.4 percent clip in the 2022-23 season.
He also spent some time in the G League, playing three games. In those contests, Boston put up an average of 25.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.0 steals per game.
Boston shot 50 percent from 3-point land in the G-League last season, even if it was a small sample size. His career average in the NBA is at 6.2 points and 1.8 rebounds per contest.
A 2020 McDonalds All-American, Boston hasn’t lived up to the hype just yet. However, he is only 22 years old so there is plenty of time for him to continue growing his game to where he needs to be.
The young guard will be looking to make a name for himself on a young Spurs team that is expected to be much more competitive this season. San Antonio signed veteran guard Chris Paul this offseason, giving Boston Jr. a chance to learn from one of the greatest to ever step on a court.
With NBA sensation Victor Wembanyama, the Spurs look to be a force in the Western Conference. While Boston will have to fight to just make the roster, he is in a great spot to develop long-term — even if he just has to play for San Antonio’s G League squad, the Austin Spurs, as an affiliate player. Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich has been known for helping out young talent so Boston should be in good hands.
